From reimagining brand architecture to leading the 2024 uplift, he has helped position Ctrl not just for what’s now, but for what’s next. In this Q&A, Brent shares his thoughts on brand’s role in trust, clarity, and how Ctrl approaches branding differently in an industry that can feel all too familiar. Continue reading for his Q&A.
Q. So Brent– what exactly does ‘Head of Brand’ mean at ctrl:cyber?
A. In close collaboration with the broader team, I oversee all brand-related touchpoints of the business—how we look, how we sound, and how we communicate. Through strategy, design, storytelling, and experience, we carefully aim to reflect who we are and where we’re going, with the intention of creating consistency and clarity from the inside out.
Q. What was the vision behind ctrl:cyber’s brand uplift?
A. The goal was to create a brand built for where we’re heading—not just where we’ve been. We wanted something that felt distinctly “us”, with the confidence to zig while others zag. It wasn’t just a new look; it was about sharpening how we express ourselves and reflecting our philosophy of clarity and precision. Now, as Ctrl takes on bigger challenges, the brand has room to grow with it. There’s space for deeper storytelling, sharper differentiation, and more ambitious creative—all grounded in substance, which is very energising.
Q. How do you ensure the brand stays relevant in an industry that moves so fast?
A. Honestly, some of the best inspiration comes from outside the cybersecurity space. While we stay across trends, we’re just as invested in how bold brands in other sectors are building trust and community. Our goal is to lead, not follow. To find the gaps, cut through the noise, and add the value.
Q.What role does brand play in building trust with clients and partners?
A. In cybersecurity, trust is everything. Brand is often our first signal to the world that we take that seriously. For me, it’s not about polish—it’s about presence. It reflects who we are, what we stand for, and the standards we uphold. It’s about showing up consistently and clearly at every touchpoint, with honesty, transparency, and reliability.
Q. What’s been the most rewarding part of building Ctrl’s identity?
A. Seeing the brand directly contribute to broader business goals—from how our team presents work, to the way we form partnerships, to how we host experiences. The reward comes when the identity becomes lived, not just designed.
Q. Tell us a bit about life before Ctrl?
A. I started as a Graphic Designer, working across a wide variety startups and established brands. That evolved into a focus on brand identity, UX/UI, and product design—seeing how small design decisions can shift business outcomes. After years of agency life, I eventually started my own consultancy, where Ctrl became a client. That gave me a deep understanding of the team, culture, and ambition behind the business. When the opportunity came up to step in fully, it was a no-brainer.
Q. And outside of work, what keeps you busy?
A. I always enjoy spending time with my fiancé Samantha; whether it’s seeking out new experiences or making our way through Melbourne’s incredible food and wine scene. We’re fortunate to have a great group of close friends we catch up with regularly, which keeps our weekends full. Like many others, COVID brought some changes for me – namely, swapping football for golf… It’s become a real passion and, I’ll admit, a bit of an addiction. These days, I’m always exploring new courses and working my way (slowly!) toward scratch.
Q. What does ‘Cyber Together’ mean to you?
A. It’s a reminder that cybersecurity is about people—not just tech. Every incident affects someone. “Cyber Together” means creating collective strength—within our team, with our partners, and across the broader ecosystem.
For Brent, brand is more than identity; it’s a vehicle for trust, clarity, and progress. As ctrl:cyber continues to grow and lead, the brand grows with it—anchored by purpose, shaped by creativity, and built on collaboration. Cyber Together isn’t just the mission, it’s the method.
